THE teenager whose mother and four sisters were killed in a house fire last month was yesterday (Thurs) laid to rest beside them after losing his battle with leukaemia.

Just five weeks ago Adam Riaz, 17, left his hospital bed to attend the funeral of his mum Caneze, 39, and sisters Sayrah, 16, Sophia, 15, Alicia, 10, and Hannah, three - and paid a moving tribute to them at the graveside.

He died on Monday and yesterday he made the same last journey, with a solemn service at the Raza Jamia Masjid mosque on Grimshaw Street followed by burial at Accrington Cemetery.

Over 200 people lined the streets in pouring rain to pay their last respects to the music-loving teenager whose tragic story touched so many hearts.

Adam was described by those who knew him as a "true gentleman". Close friends said that after his family was wiped out he lost the will to live and eventually died of a broken heart.

The body of Adam's father Mohammed Riaz, 49, - who is thought to have started the blaze - was flown back to his native Pakistan for burial.
