A pensioner was airlifted to hospital after a car overturned in Oswaldtwistle.

Only one car is believed to be involved in the incident, which happened at around 10.30am on Monday, June 6.

John Taylor, spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We received a call at around 10.35am and two crews from Accrington were sent out to the incident on Thwaites Road near White Ash School.

“We got the call from the Ambulance Service, it was reported that the car had overturned and there was a man trapped inside, when crews arrived the car was overturned but no-one was trapped and no rescue was needed.”

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said: “A man in his 70s was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital. His injuries are unknown.”

A spokesperson from Lancashire Police said: “We were called just after 10.30am to reports of an accident on Thwaites Road outside White Ash Primary School. There was a car on its side and a person inside was trapped. The fire service were in attendance.

“An air ambulance arrived to take the man to Royal Blackburn Hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

“At 11am the vehicle was being recovered and road closures were in place at the junction on Union Road and Thwaites Road.”
