Major roadworks at a busy junction in Oswaldtwistle have now finished after nearly two months of delays.

Works at the junction of Henry Street, Market Street and Blackburn Road started at the end on January this year and were due to be completed by the end of May.

Highways bosses at Lancashire County Council have previously apologised for delays after confirming the scheme was overrunning.

The junction has been remodelled as part of the £40 million Pennine Reach scheme with new mini-roundabouts and pedestrian crossings.

Oswaldtwistle councillor Peter Britcliffe said: “Unfortunately it’s taken quite a long while to get the work done but now it is finished and the traffic is flowing far more freely than it did with the traffic lights.

“This is good new for road users entering and leaving Oswaldtwistle and is a major improvement to that junction.”

A Hyndburn Labour spokesperson said the roadworks, along with paving and grassed areas, makes it an ‘impressive entrance to town’ and there are only ‘some minor elements still to be completed’ with minimal impact on motorists.
