Talented students have been rewarded for their success at Accrington Academy’s Sports and Annual Awards.

More than 200 youngsters were presented with prizes at the annual awards ceremony by Inline Skating World Champion Jenna Dowling.

They included Halle Hodgson, Fyza Tariq, Isabella Marsden and Kelly Mcdonald who each took the ‘Faster, Higher, Stronger’ prize for their respective college group at the Academy.

Around 20 other pupils were victorious at the sports awards the previous night with year 10 student Georgia Walmsley being named as the Academy’s Sports Personality of the Year.

Simone Ellson, Riley Armstrong, Dolcie Power, Mitchell Healey, Beth Irvine, and Connor Walsh all received a Sports Leaders Award.

Other honours presented on the night included Erin McDaid (Dedication to PE), Zoe Dermian (KS4 Achievement in PE), Ethan Naisbitt (KS3 Sportsman of the Year), Liam Ralph (KS4 Sportsman of the Year), Honey Edmundson (KS3 Sportswoman of the Year) and Samantha Howarth (KS4 Sportswoman of the Year).

Tegan Davies, Olivia Nicholls, Georgia Walmsley, Ethan Naisbitt, Riley Armstrong and Marcel Wusiewicz were all named ‘Academy Sporting Heroes’.

During the annual awards night the Academy also named its student ambassadors for the next academic year.

They are: Riley Armstrong, Benjamin Ayres, Taylor Bickerstaff, Tegan Davies, Zoe Demain, Paiton Harrison, Kyle Holliday, Samantha Howarth, Ehsan Hussain, Oliver Hussey, Kaitlyn Knight, Teala Lynas, Zioya Mahmood, Kelly McDonald, Harleigh Middleton, Olivia Nicholls, Oskar Patterson, Liam Ralph, Jawairiya Shazad, Kelsey Smith, Madison Smith, Georgia Walmsley, Mackenzie Wild and Harris Wilkinson.

Accrington Academy Principal Andy O’Brien said praised all the students on their success.

He said: “The awards are the ideal way to celebrate and recognise the fantastic achievements of our students.

“It’s been another incredibly busy but productive year and a big well done and thank you to all of our winners.”

The awards ceremonies were held on Wednesday, July 6 and Thursday, July 7 at the Academy on Queens Road West.
