A pie firm from Clayton-le-Moors has won back its contract to supply pies to Lancashire County Cricket Club.
Clayton Park Bakery general manager Brian Ashworth said he always enjoys a ‘good innings’ at the cricket club where the company has won the contract to provide this year’s pies.
The business on Petre Road lost out to a local rival last year and bosses said they were ‘delighted’ to be invited straight back to supply the world-famous club with pies for each of their matches in 2014.
Mr Ashworth said: “It’s very nice when you get something back that somebody has had for a year.
“We had been supplying the club for the previous ten years and hopefully now with this new contract we can do that againa nd perhaps even longer.
“We supply to a couple of local cricket clubs but nothing at the size of Lancashire County Cricket Club so it is a great honour and recognition of our company.
“We like to support local clubs and the community as much as we can.”
Nic Ashurst, Lancashire County Cricket Club head chef, fielded the contract applications and quickly selected the Clayton-le-Moors based company as the club’s preferred supplier.
He said: “It’s vitally important to us to keep our members happy.
“That means ensuring the best quality produce, the freshest bake and the best taste.”
Within a few days of the deal, the pie warmers arrived at Emirates Old Trafford and deliveries were arranged for each match.
The Award Winning Clayton Park Bakery is no stranger to sports grounds and already supplies a number of top Football Clubs including Liverpool, Everton, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Preston North End, Oldham Athletic and Rochdale Football Club.
