A theatre company is making a splash with its latest production.

Oswaldtwistle Players' new play requires the cast to be soaked to the skin and to strip out of their wet clothes on stage.

Group secretary Clare Highton said: "Luckily, the Players are always ready to immerse themselves in challenging roles and director Paul McGowan had no trouble casting the parts."

The production is Neville's Island by Tim Firth, a comedy with dramatic suspense amid the laughter.

It has played to packed houses in theatres up and down the country and has also been a TV film starring Martin Clunes and Timothy Spall.

The play tells the tale of four out-of-condition businessmen who are sent on a team building exercise in the Lake District. They succeed in becoming the first people to become shipwrecked on an island in the middle of Derwentwater.

Losing their boat, most of their clothes and equipment and in grave danger of losing their sanity, they have no means of summoning help and what should have been a bonding process turns into a muddy, bloody fight for survival.

Rehearsals for Neville's Island are in full swing and the play will be performed at the Civic Theatre Oswaldtwistle from Wednesday April 21 to Saturday April 24.

Oswaldtwistle Players' last production, Mary Barton by Elizabeth Gaskell, received a National Operatic and Dramatic Association regional award for best play in August 2009

Tickets for Neville's Island cost £8, concessions are £7 and there is a opening night special offer with all seats at £6.

Tickets are available at Edmundson's Sweet Shop on Union Road in Oswaldtwistle and from Leisure in Hyndburn in Accrington Town Hall.
