A bogus workman has conned a pensioner out of cash for work he didn't carry out.

Police are investigating after the lady, who is in her 70s, was approached by a man outside her home on Percy Street, Oswaldtwistle between noon and 2pm on Tuesday, October 25.

He told her that maintenance work needed to be carried out on her drain pipes and asked for money to do the work.

The woman became frightened when he entered her house and handed over £60 in cash.

He then left and promised to return at 3pm but failed to appear.

The man is described as white, aged around 50 years old, stocky build with short hair. He was wearing a dark jumper and spoke in a Yorskshire accent.

PC Roger Brindle, from Accrington Police, called the man “despicable” and is appealing for information.

He said: ““This man has deliberately targeted an elderly and vulnerable woman and we need the public’s help to catch him.

“The victim did not require any work doing property and this man has purely set out to con her which is despicable.

“I would urge anybody that has any information about this crime or anyone that has fallen victim to any similar offence to contact police.”

Anyone with any information that could assist the police investigation should contact Lancashire Police on 08451 25 35 45.
