Nine ducks have been shot dead using an air weapon in Rishton. Offenders broke into an allotment site and cut a barbed wire fence before climbing into a duck pen and shooting the ducks.

They then made off with six of the ducks and a small amount of scrap metal.

The incident happened at the site behind the council-owned playing fields on Parker Street sometime between 4.15pm on Sunday, March 4 and 7.15am the following morning.

Police have now launched an investigation and are appealing for any who has any information or who witnessed suspicious activity in the area to contact them.

PC Johanna Maden, Community Beat Manager for Rishton, said: "This was a nasty attack in which nine ducks have been brutally shot dead.

"The owner of the allotment is understandably shocked and upset at what has happened and we are determined the perpetrators will be brought to justice.

"We would appeal for anyone with information on this incident or who saw anything suspicious to contact us on 101."
