Police have launched an appeal after burglars smashed their way into a children's nursery.

The First Class Day Nursery on Noble Street in Rishton was targeted last weekend by unknown offenders who disabled their CCTV system before smashing a window to gain entry.

Once inside they tried to break into an office however were unsuccessful and fled empty handed.

Lancashire Police said the incident happened sometime between 6pm on Friday, August 15 and the evening of Sunday, August 17.

A spokesperson said: “We received a call at 7.30pm on August 17 and they have tried to prize the glass out of a upvc door. They have then smashed a window to get inside

“Nothing has been taken but it did cause damage to the window.”

The nursery declined to comment.
