Observer readers have been praised by police following a crackdown on shoplifting.

Last week we published six pictures of people officers wished to speak to as part of a crackdown on shoplifting.

The images were taken by CCTV cameras in shops across Hyndburn between May and October this year.

Investigating officers said they are now speaking to three people as a result of the appeal.

PC Mark Parrington, of Hyndburn’s Detection Team based at Accrington Police Station, said: “We’ve had quite a few people ringing up following the pictures in the paper and it’s been a good response.

“We have had three of the people identified and we are actively speaking to them or they are being sought for interview. We are still hopeful people can help us identify the other three people.”

Police are still appealing for helping in identifying three of the people snapped by the CCTV cameras.

Two of the incidents relate to the One Stop shop on Blackburn Road, Accrington,  on Thursday, May 2 (right),  and on Wednesday, September 25, (left).

The other shoplifting incident, (centre) relates to the Co-op store on Pickup Street in Clayton-le-Moors on Saturday, June 29.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lancashire Police on 101 or visit the stations in Accrington, Great Harwood and Greenbank.
