POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two cars were set on fire in Huncoat.

The two parked cars, were in adjacent streets when they were set alight by someone who fire crews say was ‘an adult with experience in setting fires.’

The cars which were parked in Walter Street and Marshall Avenue, in Huncoat on Tuesday evening were completely destroyed in the fire and are now unrecognisable.

The two fire engines from Hyndburn Fire Station attended the scenes, shortly after 4.10am.

A spokesman from Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: "These car fires were set literally within minutes of each other, so we guess they were set by an adult with an axe to grind. The person who has done this knows how serious a crime they have committed and they have probably done this before. Our fire crews will be investigating the fires and the police will be to."

A police spokesman said: "I appeal for anyone who saw anything or anyone acting suspicious in the early hours of Tuesday to come forward. This was a nasty attack on somebody else’s property. We are linking the two fires as they were started literally moments after one another in adjacent streets."
