Cannabis worth an estimated street value of £46,800 has been uncovered by police.

Around 117 plants were discovered after police raided a house in Richmond Hill Street on Friday, June 1.

It is the second large drug factory found by officers in Accrington in the past month.

The plants were located in the living room and upstairs bedrooms and seized along with cultivation equipment, lighting and fans.

A 34-year-old man has been charged with the production of a controlled drug.

Community beat manager for Central and Spring Hill ward, PC Shazia Bibi, described it as a ‘significant cannabis set up’.

She said: "We are aware of the harm that drugs can bring to a community and we will continue to do all we can to remove them from our streets.

"I hope this highlights our determination to act on information from members of the public and I urge anyone who is concerned about drugs being used or produced in their neighbourhood to contact us."

The seizure came only two weeks after 47 mature cannabis plants worth more than £20,000 were discovered following an unrelated police raid.

They also seized a huge bag of dried bush at the empty house in Stevenson Street East, Accrington on Thursday, May 17.

Officers said toys had been placed in the front window of the house to make it look like someone was living there.
