Motorcyclists are being urged to keep their bikes secure following a spate of thefts in Hyndburn.

Thieves have stolen eight mopeds and motorcycles from Rishton, Great Harwood, Whalley, Guide, Belthorn, Whitebirk, Darwen and Lower Darwen.

Sgt Tim McDermott said: "Some are smaller mopeds and 125cc machines while others are full sized bikes. "We found one of the 50cc scooters burnt out in the Highercroft area and we are making enquiries to find the others and identify who was responsible.

"I urge people to be vigilant of people paying unusual attention to neighbours bikes and would encourage owners to make sure their bikes are locked and secure and where possible out of obvious sight."

Anyone with information can contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
