PUPILS from five Hyndburn schools took to the stage in a spectacular show of talent.
Accrington and Rossendale College organised a Pop Idol event, together with Cannon Street Baptist Church, for schools to pit their best acts against each other in a grand final held at Accrington Town Hall.
Each school held heats and sent their most successful singers to the showdown, where they were made up to look the part by the college's theatrical make-up students. Other students set up and sound-checked the equipment.
The 15 acts covered every musical genre from the Kaiser Chiefs to Whitney Houston.
The winner was Rebecca Entwistle from Rhyddings Business and Enterprise School, who sang Don't Know Why by Norah Jones. Second place went to Ashleigh Cook from St Christopher's and Melissa Frankel from Moorhead took third. A special award was given to Rebecca O'Neill of Moorhead for an acoustic performance of KT Tunstall's Suddenly I See.
Recruitment officer and judge Az Mirza said: "This was a great opportunity for the local schools and Accrington and Rossendale College to work together. There was a fantastic spirit among the contestants of friendly rivalry and the standard just seems to get better every year."
