A DRUG counselling volunteer was horrified after discovering pornographic videos stored on a second hand computer he bought from Cash Generator.

Haslingden resident George Johnson, 34, purchased the £199 desktop device from Accrington’s Broadway shop. But he was shell-shocked when he stumbled on five adult pornography videos.

George, of Wilkinson Street, said: "It was pretty horrendous and just shouldn’t be on there. Anybody could have bought it, not set it up until Christmas, and given it to their child as a present. It wasn't very pleasant finding it for myself so for a child to see it would be awful."

George is currently working up to four hours a day voluntarily to help drug and alcohol addicts get their lives back on track - and is reliant on a computer to work from home.

After his laptop crashed he visited Cash Generator Accrington - a buy, sell and loan store - before paying for the pre-owned computer on 2 November.

Cash Generator said it was the first time this had happened in Accrington and that all stores followed very strict procedures when buying and selling pre-owned items

A spokesperson for the company said: "We are obviously concerned that this has happened and regret any distress caused to the customer.

"When the customer brought it to our attention, we offered him a full refund. When he requested to keep the item, we conducted a further comprehensive clean and also installed additional programmes as a goodwill gesture."

But George said: "I won’t be going back to that shop to get anything, not after that, it's ridiculous.

"I do think by law all computers should be wiped before they are sold. Now I’m just glad I can get on with my work."

Cash Generator confirmed a full investigation will be carried out into the matter.
