FIREMAN Simon Leyland has been suspended over a bizarre prank that made national newspaper headlines.
Simon, of Heys Court, Oswaldtwistle, is alleged to have been involved in the incident in which a colleague at Blackley Fire Station, Greater Manchester, was filmed spinning around in a tumble dryer.
He was holidaying with his wife, Amourelle, who is expecting their first child, when the story broke but was questioned on his return earlier this week.
He was then suspended along with three colleagues pending the outcome of a disciplinary hearing.
Firefighter Andy Bruce, 33, who lives in Bury, has apologised for the stunt in which he was filmed climbing into an industrial dryer which was then packed with uniformed clothing and turned on.
As he spins around, watching officers are heard laughing before he climbs back out and complains of feeling dizzy.
The footage, which was posted on the Internet, shows a second firefighter shutting the dryer door. A third person is believed to have filmed the incident and a fourth is heard laughing in the background.
Senior fire officers have labelled the Jackass-style stunt as "an extremely reckless and irresponsible act."
Mr Leyland could not be contacted for comment.
