MORE than 1,000 people are expected to descend on Rishton to celebrate all things British
Visitors are being urged to embrace this years ‘Pride of Britain’ theme at the annual Rishton Festival by coming in fancy dress.
The festival will feature a beer tent, more than 30 stalls, demonstrations from Active Women, birds of prey and bouncy castles.
Christine Hammerton, of the festival committee, said they are hoping for bigger numbers this year.
She said: “We had about 1,000 people last year so we are hoping to get at least that again this year.
“The only thing we can’t book is the weather but it’s been so nice recently that we want it to continue.
“I know someone who will be coming dressed in one of the old nurses uniforms from the past but it could be anything that evokes the Pride of Britain.
“It will be a nice surprise to see all the different uniforms and what ideas people have come up with.”
The festival will be held at Norden High School on Saturday, July 5.
It will be preceded by a parade through the village.
Christine added: “It is the same day as the Tour de France.
“We want people to come to Rishton rather than go to Yorkshire.”
Ward councillor and festival committee member Clare Cleary said: “I am looking forward to this year’s event, let’s just hope we get the good weather again.”
