Firefighters have launched an investigation after arsonists destroyed three sheds this morning. Two sheds on Willows Lane within 10 metres of each other were burnt to the ground and one on nearby Garbett Street was attacked.

Crew manager Chris Archer, of Hyndburn Fire Station believes the incidents on Tuesday are linked to a spate of shed and rubbish fires in the same area of Springhilll on March 28 this year.

He said: "All our fire engines were tied up for almost two hours this morning. We were called to Garbett Street at around 2.30am. While we were putting that out we got a call that two sheds were on fire at the rear of properties on Willows Lane.

"We have seen two youths in the vicinity. It is highly likely that the people who started the spate of fires in March started these."

He added: "It was lucky there were no petrol mowers or gas barbecues inside the sheds. Whoever is setting them on fire have no consideration for what is inside and are putting people at risk. It is deliberate and we will be passing our investigation on to police."

Following the fire on Garbett Street the sheds on Willows Lane were reported as alight at 3.25am and 3.40am.
