POLICE are still trying to trace a man who they believe holds vital information about an alleged assault on a taxi driver.

The incident happened on Wednesday 2 January when the taxi was travelling along Scaitcliffe Street, Accrington.

Two men got out of separate cars and approached the taxi. They blocked the way and allegedly assaulted the driver who had a passenger in the car at the time.

He was unable to finish the journey so dropped off the male passenger in Willows Lane, Accrington, before going to hospital for treatment.

PC John Banks said: “We are still keen to speak with the passenger as he will have witnessed the assault and may have some important information to help our inquiries.

“I appeal to him or anyone else with information about the incident to contact us immediately.”

Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently on police bail.

Anyone with information should contact PC Banks on 382141 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
