A pubgoer has been taken to hospital with a fractured ankle after being attacked from behind in a toilet.

Police and paramedics were called to The Abbey Hotel on Bank Street in Accrington to reports of an alleged assault at around 10.20pm on Friday, May 20.

Officers said the two men, who are know to each other, were drinking in the pub before the victim, 53, went to the toilet and was hit from behind.

The victim suffered a fractured ankle along with bruising and swelling to his face.

A 23-year-old man from Oswaldtwistle was later arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and has been bailed until July 30.
