A school Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) has raised £800 during a recent Christmas fair, carol concert raffle and Cheshire Oaks trip.

The money raised by PTA members at Mount Carmel High School in Accrington will now go back into the school to support resources or projects.

They have also decided to use £100 of the funds raised to buy toys for local school children and presented them to Asda Accrington’s community champion, June Smith, last weekend.

Sue Fielding, partnership manager at the school, said the ‘very kind’ donation to buy presents for those less fortunate is part of an annual appeal co-ordinated by the Rotary Club of Accrington and supported by Asda and other local businesses.

She said: “A group of Mount Carmel students went to Asda Accrington on Saturday afternoon and picked gift tags from the Christmas tree before going to select appropriate gifts for them from the store.

Luckily for them Father Christmas was also in the store at the same time and they passed on the presents to his ‘elf’ to be wrapped and delivered to the children named on the tags. We wish these children a Happy Christmas from all at Mount Carmel.”
