A dishwasher caught fire yesterday after it malfunctioned. The incident happened on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 27 in Huncoat.

Firefighters praised quick-thinking residents living in the affected property on Loweswater Close.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "It caught fire because of an internal fault. The people inside put the fire out before we got there by isolating the electrics and putting a damp cloth over them."

The dishwasher was badly damaged and there was light smoke damage to the kitchen.
