A MAN has appeared before Blackburn magistrates charged with rape after a girl giving evidence in a trial at Burnley Crown Court made the allegation against him.

The court heard that the hearing at Burnley was halted on Monday and the girl was interviewed. The accused was interviewed and charged and bailed to appear in court on Tuesday morning.

Ian Reddaway, 58, of Rhyddings Street, Oswaldtwistle, was then sent to Burnley Crown Court on the rape charge so that both allegations, involving a girl under the age of 16, can be heard at the same time. Reddaway was remanded on bail.
