Travellers are being urged to reveal the identity of a gypsy child who karate-kicked a seriously-ill elderly lady on her doorstep.
Police believe the travelling community know the teenager who drop-kicked the woman as she cleaned some chips from the front of her home.
Margaret Peirce, 60, of Church Street, Church, fell after being kicked and was then stamped on. Margaret was severely bruised in the attack and left with spinal and internal injuries which she is currently being treated for in hospital.
At the time of the attack Margaret was returning from a hospital appointment due to a five-year fight with a genetic disorder which causes major organ and heart failure.
The popular retired hairdresser has problems with osteoporosis and has also suffered a stroke in the past.
The incident - when two teenage boys were seen walking past her front door as she opened it - happened at around 7.30pm on Monday, February 14.
Following a renewed police appeal for information Margaret said: "It's weeks ago now but he really did hurt me and it has done me a lot of damage. I'll be in Preston Hospital this week because of damage to my vertebrae in the attack. I have been in a lot of pain anyway so it didn't help getting stamped on my back."
Detective Inspector Claire Holbrook said: "This was a completely unprovoked attack on an innocent woman on her own doorstep. The person who did this is nothing more than a coward and he needs to be brought to justice. I want to make a direct appeal to the man who was with the offender: I ask you to search your conscience and do the right thing by telling us who this individual is.
"I believe a small minority of the travelling community within the East Lancashire area may be aware of who the offender is. I appeal to those individuals to come forward, in confidence, to assist us to bring this man to justice regarding this despicable attack.
"Finally, I’m appealing to anyone else who may have witnessed something or may have information that could assist us to get in touch. In particular, I would urge any members of the travelling community who has any information about this incident to contact police."
The attacker is described as white, around 5'1" tall, of slim build with short dark hair with a straight, greasy fringe.
He had a number of stud earrings in his left ear and was wearing a navy blue tracksuit with a lighter coloured edging and the bottoms of his pants were tucked into his socks.
There was another man with him but he was not involved in the assault.
