A retired art teacher from Rishton has launched an exhibit at the Haworth Art Gallery.

Valerie Haney, of Blackburn Road, has showcased 11 pieces of her work in a style influenced by Japanese culture.

The former Accrington Art School pupil said she has enjoyed producing the work over the past few years and loves its character, colour and detail.

She said: “I love the whole Samurai style and the colours and patterns and imagery.

“It’s taken a couple of years to make and I actually have 21 pieces but there was only room at the gallery for 11.

“It’s something quite different to what is normally shown at the gallery and seen by the visitors there.”

The exhibit will run until Sunday, September 14.
