Dozens of people have taken part in a community planting day at Rishton Methodist School.

Around 30 families from Rishton volunteered to take part in a planting day, along with members of Rishton Allotments. The event also included a bouncy castle and football shoot-out.

Year 2 teacher Christopher Dugdale said the field will become a communal area and opened to schools and nurseries.

He said: “It was an awesome day. The weather was fantastic and the 30 families that volunteered, along with members of Rishton Allotments, meant we had more than enough help.

“The forest school looks outstanding and will look even better as everything starts to mature. We were so grateful that Janet Ashworth, Tesco customer champion in Accrington, could come down and help plant. She brought us some fantastic gardening equipment donated by Tesco.”

The school has been working with Copperhouse Children’s Centre to create a forest learning environment. The project involved school staff and children and families from Copperhouse.

Mr Dugdale also praised Stonehill Nurseries which donated a large number of plants and their expertise.

He added: “They really made all the children and parents passionate about planting.”
