A GREAT Harwood woman who was involved in a road smash in Manchester has lost her fight for life.
Student Vikki Spear, 20, of Grimshaw Street, was rushed to Hope Hospital, Manchester, in a critical condition after she was in collision with a taxi on Wilmslow Road, Fallowfield, at 3.50am on Sunday.
But after days of her parents waiting anxiously at her bedside, her condition deteriorated and she died on Wednesday afternoon.
Vikki, a former pupil of St Augustine's RC High School, Billington, was a student at the University of Manchester.
The 47-year-old driver of the silver Nissan Primera taxi was not injured. Wilmslow Road was closed for several hours following the collision.
Her parents David and Madeline said: "Vikki was a beautiful and beloved daughter and a loving big sister to Sophie. She was so full of life and will be greatly missed by her family and friends."
St Augustine's headteacher Anthony McNa-mara said yesterday: "Vikki was a pupil here from 1998 to 2003. She was a very intelligent and hard-working student with a beautiful smile and a lively personality.
"She was popular with staff and pupils alike and was made a senior prefect in her final year.
"Vikki went on to achieve outstanding academic success at St Mary's College and was in her second year at Manchester University.
"Our hearts go out to her family who have been in our prayers throughout the past week."
