An Accrington charity which provides immediate response support to local poverty has received a meaty donation from farm shop Roaming Roosters.

On hearing about Maundy Relief's work, Roaming Roosters' owners Simon and Nick Mellin felt that they could help with a regular meat hamper donation which will help feed the many visitors who come through the charity's doors every day.

Simon said they were amazed by the selfless and caring spirit of manager Dorothy McGregor.

He said: "We are hoping that our monthly meat hampers will help and we are assured that the five chickens and other accompanying meats will be put to good use."

Carl Wright, one of the lead volunteers at the centre, said the donation from the Higham firm will go a long way.

He added: "It will be great to provide our pop-in visitors with locally reared, fresh, quality meat and we cannot thank them enough."
