PEOPLE who love to dress up have an added incentive to join Church and Oswaldtwistle Rotary Club’s Big Charity Walk on Sunday 10 May.

A fancy dress option has been added to this year’s event.

Those taking part will be judged as they set out on the seven-mile circular route at around 9.30am – and the winners will get a cheque for £50 for a charity of their choice.

The walk starts and finishes at the Junction 7 business park in Clayton-le-Moors and takes in some lovely scenery along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal.

As usual, after paying a £4 entry fee towards the organisation of the day, walkers can raise money for a good cause of their choice, from a big national charity to a local organisation or sports club.

Last year more than £80,000 was raised by 1,200 walkers.

They will be led off by Julie Hesmondhalgh, who plays Hayley Cropper in Coronation Street, Greg Pope MP and Paul Trickett, head of Rhyddings Business and Enterprise School.

Water points will be spread along the route and Emma and George at the cafe on Junction 7 estate will provide end-of-walk refreshments from burgers to butties.

Everyone completing the route will receive a certificate.
