WHEN a midwife was urgently called away from one delivery to assist in another little did she know that the two babies would one day be walking down the aisle together.

Margaret and David Stinson, of Burton Street, Rishton, were born on 21 June 1947 and have both just celebrated their 60th birthdays together.

Midwife Margaret Lonsdale delivered Margaret in Burton Street - across the road from where the couple now live - and David was born nearby on Pickup Road. The couple eventually tied the knot at Blackburn Register Office and have now been married for 41 years.

It wasn't until the pair met each other at the age of 18 that they realised they had such a special bond.

Margaret, who works in a Chinese takeaway in Hermitage Street, Rishton, said: "The midwife was with my mum, Irene, when David's mum Eileen needed her. Margaret had to leave so we have never been sure who was born first but there couldn't have been much in it."

The couple were introduced to each other by a cousin. And it was during one of their first dates together they discovered they were born on the same day.

Margaret added: "We just hit it off really, David has a good personality and he is a good laugh. He is very loyal and that's what's important."

The couple have five children and 15 grandchildren.
