A hair-raising challenge saw a snipper bid to break the world record for the most styles done in a day.

Sheridan Wilson, 26, believes she has broken the Guinness World Record for most haircuts completed by an individual hairdresser in eight hours.

The current record stands at 32 but Sheridan finished an amazing 40 styles in one day at her salon Headkandi on Warner Street, Accrington.

And the first customer in the queue was Observer reporter Kate Watkins – who had her hair styled in just eight minutes.

Afterwards Oswaldtwistle resident Sheridan said: "The day flew right by.

"I thought I would be really tired but when I finished the last style I felt like I had only been working for two hours."

She also said she felt like a boxer during a match as she was fed and watered by staff members while she was styling hair.

In the run-up to the event Sheridan practised various styles on mannequins and created a book of styles which she had on hand during the challenge.

Each client was asked to come into the salon with clean and dry hair.

After looking at each woman's hair for a matter of seconds, Sheridan would then create the style based on her style guide.

The day did come with a few scheduling difficulties.

Sheridan said: "A few people we scheduled were running late and we had to keep to our time so we convinced a few people on the street to come in and help.

"They were really good about it. They all wanted to be part of it."

Sheridan sent her application for the world record to Guinness on Tuesday, October 4.

A spokesman for Guinness said applications for records can take up to six weeks to process.
