STAFF of an Oswaldtwistle take-away had a narrow escape after a fire ripped through their premises.

Firefighters were called to the Star East take-away on the junction of Hayes Lane and Fielding Lane shortly after 11am on Monday after the chip pan range caught fire.

The four working staff members managed to get out of the premises unharmed despite the fire spreading down the flu into the basement.

Two fire engines attended and four firemen were deployed inside the burning building to tackle the flames with foam for more than hour.

The chip pan range was destroyed, and there was smoke and fire damage to the basement and shop.
