Shoppers had to be evacuated from a shopping centre in Accrington following a blaze.

The Victorian Arcade shopping centre, off Warner Street, had to be emptied after a fire at an electrical shop on Friday.

Ten firefighters fought the blaze, which is believed to have begun in the store room of the shop.

Fire crews used breathing apparatus and a ventilation unit to disperse the smoke.

Two fire engines from Hyndburn attended and were at the scene for around two hours.

All the shops in the arcade had to remain empty until firefighters felt it was safe for people to go back in.

The fire caused damage to a store room and a lot of smoke damage to the remainder of the shop.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "We don't know what the cause was yet, but the fire was spread by the accumulation of flammable materials in the shop."

The cause of the fire is still being investigated. No one was injured in the incident.
