Members of a Clayton-le-Moors slimming group have raised more than £500 for a leading cancer charity after taking part in a 5km Race for Life.
Men and women from the Slimming World group walked from the Arthur Wilson Centre along the Leeds Liverpool Canal in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Louise Woodcock, group consultant, said people from aged 11 to their late 60s took part and raised £518 for their chosen charity.
She said: “It was a fantastic event with a real feel-good atmosphere.
“We walked along the canal on an extremely hot day and we all thoroughly enjoyed it.
“It was amazing to hear people saying how thrilled they were to complete the 5km and that before they had joined the group and lost the weight they have they would never have managed the distance.
“We have all been touched by cancer and someone who has lost someone to it and that showed in the response we got as everyone was really keen.
“Some people couldn’t make it as they were on holiday but still supported and donated money.”
Earlier this year the group collected around 30 bags of clothes which no longer fit them and donated it to the Cancer Research UK shop in Rawtenstall.
