Sarah Akerman, 18, from Clayton-le-Moors achieved A*s in Maths, further maths and chemistry and an A in physics and will now study artificial intelligence at the University of Manchester.
She said: “I’m really happy but in a state of shock. It was more than what I was expecting but it what I was predicted.
“It’s more than what I needed to get into university. For the one’s I got A*s in I was 90 per cent sure but in Physics I had no idea.
“I’m really pleased for my friends as well as I know they’ve worked so hard.”
Emma Hindle, 18, from Accrington, achieved A*s in biology and geology and an A in chemistry and will no study to become a vet at Edinburgh University.
She said: “I worked really hard for the exams and I’m really pleased. I didn’t expect it.
“I have wanted to be a vet since I was little but I never thought I would be able to do it.”
Hannah Hilkin, 18, from Oswaldtwistle, achieved A*s in sociology, English literature and classics and will now study English with creative writing at Newcastle University.
She said: “It’s been quite nerve-racking the past few weeks as I just wanted to know what I got.
“I was surprised with my results as I didn’t know what I was going to get. I couldn’t tell how I had done.
“I have loved my time at the school and sixth form and it feels like I have always been here. I’m really going to miss it.”
Matthew Buckley, 18, from Burnley, got A*s in chemistry, physics and maths and will now study physics and Leeds University.
He said: “The effort I put in has really paid off and I’m really pleased.
“I have dreaded results day but I’m glad it’s all over and I finally know. The friends I’ve spoken to have all done really well too which is nice to know.
“I’m going to university but I haven’t though any further beyond that but it will be something sciencey.
Accrington Academy voxpops
Henna Duggan, from Accrington, achieved an A in religious studies and Bs in maths and English and will now study maths at Liverpool University.
The 18-year-old, who has been a key member of the Academy’s sixth form leadership team, said: “I’m really in shock and completely speechless as they are better than what I was expecting. The exams were really tough this year.
“The past few days have been very nervous. On the results day it was the slowest morning ever but it’s a big relief now.
“I’m really excited to go to university and I know maths will open up a lot of doors.
“I don’t have any future plans yet, I just want to see what I enjoy.”
Louise Fielding, 18, from Accrington, is going to Lancaster University to study law after getting A grades in law and history and a B in English.
The Rock FM Student of the Year said: “I wasn’t expecting to get such good grades in all my subjects. I’m really happy the hard work has paid off.
“I didn’t check on UCAS before I came in to get my results so it was a big surprise.
“My family are really proud and happy for me.
“I’m really excited to go to uni but I will really miss it here as well. I wouldn’t have got the grades without it.”
Thomas Quraishi-Rewaj, 18, from Accrington achieved an A* in business studies, an A in ICT and a B in history and will now study IT management for business at Manchester University.
He said: “I didn’t think I would get a B in history. That is the one I was worried about the most.
“I haven’t had much sleep the past few weeks and on the results day I had about four hours.
“I’m looking forward to all the sports and social life at university and studying one subject which I was to study.
“My family are really proud and over the moon.”
Anna Borg, 18, from Accrington, will now study law at Lancaster University after achieving A* grades in law and religious studies and an A in psychology.
She said: “I went from a D in RS last year to an A* now which isn’t bad. I thought I had done okay but I wasn’t expecting it to be that good.
“It’s been awful the past few weeks and I got a new job to keep my mind off it.
“I rang my mum and she didn’t believe me. Everybody here has done really well which is good.”
