Twenty five members of staff from a Clayton-le-Moors firm hope to raise a tidy sum for a cancer charity after taking on a 10k running challenge.

Staff from Kleeneze joined two of their local distributors to take part in the Pennine 10K.

Raising money for Macmillan, the team hope to raise a total of £2,000 from the race, which was held on Sunday, June 22.

As its chosen charity, the firm, which is based at Clayton Business Park, has implemented a number of fundraising initiatives in support of Macmillan, including numerous coffee mornings, product sales and donations from its catalogues of products.

The Pennine 10K, however, is the first time distributors and headquarters have teamed up for one event.

Lisa Burke, managing director, said the firm is closing in on raising a sixfigure sum for Macmillan over the years it has been supporting the charity.

She said: “We have worked to raise money for Macmillan as our designated charity for seven years and to date have raised a total of £91,946.

“The Pennine run has become very much a team event, with plenty of training after work going on, and we are delighted to be taking part and raising money for such a worthy cause.

“There are very few people who have not been touched by cancer in some way and the work that Macmillan does to provide support to people in their hour of need is truly inspiring.”

The firm raised £1,297 for the charity by taking part in a Land’s End to John O’Groats cycle challenge in 2012.

Seb Farrell, Macmillan’s fundraising manager for east Lancashire, said: “We’re delighted that our friends at Kleeneze are taking part in this year’s Pennine 10K on behalf of Macmillan.

“It is one thing to have a successful company donating money to us regularly from a business point of view and quite another to have the staff of that same company actually getting up and running to help raise money as well.

“Kleeneze is clearly a very special place to work and full of passionate and caring people determined to make a change locally for people affected by cancer.

“It’s a pleasure working with and for them.

“The Pennine 10k Run is going to be a fantastic day and we’ll be all along the route cheering them on and helping them cross that finish line.”

Kleeneze specialises in supplying a diverse range of home, garden, health, beauty and gift products.
