Cup fever is the talk of Accring-toon, with Stanley’s Carling Cup clash with Premier League Newcastle United just five days away.

Wednesday’s match is being touted as one of the biggest in Accrington’s history, and it’s hoped the game, which is live on Sky TV, will net the Reds a vital £200,000.

The draw has caught the imagination of both sets of fans, with Stanley supporters queueing at the Crown Ground since tickets went on general sale on Tuesday.

Extra police have also been drafted in an anticipation of a large and boisterous away turnout, with club bosses saying the police presence would easily outstrip that for last season’s FA Cup tie with fellow top flight side Fulham.

Visiting fans unable to get a £20 ticket are expected to get a taste of the atmosphere by watching the game in the Crown.

Hospitality and sponsorship packages are also available, with a unique chance to pose with the Carling Cup trophy, between 6 and 7pm.

For £80 per ticket hospitality guests are also promised a three-course meal, souvenir programme, match ticket, team sheet, halfway line seats and an appearance from assistant manager Jimmy Bell.

Commercial executive Danielle Fox said it promised to be a cracker.

She said: "Everybody is so excited and looking forward to the game.

"There is a lot more preparation than for a normal league match, this one is probably 10 times bigger. We’ve got perimeter boards coming to be fitted on Monday and Tuesday.

"We’re doing a limited edition programme which is going to be a lot bigger and glossier and it’s got to be something that fans can buy and keep."

The club is also expecting limited edition scarves and merchandise to be available both before and on the night.

Accrington’s geographic Inspector Andy Winter said he didn’t expect trouble - but urged people to get to the match early.

He said: "There will be an increased police presence at the match and we are expecting a good turnout to what should be an enjoyable game.

"We are not anticipating any trouble although a policing operation will be in place both inside and outside the ground and any troublemakers will be dealt with robustly. We are working with the club to make sure the supporters can enjoy themselves safely."
