A MAGNIFICENT anonymous donation of £2,000 has sent our appeal to save the Accrington Pals Memorial Chapel soaring past the £46,000 mark.

We are now tantalisingly within reach of our £50,000 target – just one week short of a year since the appeal was launched.

The cheque was sent in memory of the benefactor’s wife who was confirmed and married at St John’s Church in which the Pals Chapel is based.

Other donations received this week were £270 in memory of Annie Charnock; £25 in memory of Alice Warburton; £50 in memory of Peter Ellis; £20 with all my love to Bill from Ruth Turner; and £25 from the recent sponsored swim.

That makes a grand total of £46,198.

Just a few donations and a little more fund-raising are now needed to pay for the initial work that needs doing to re-open the beautiful and historic church.

The Nag’s Head Volunteers have asked us to thank anyone who donated raffle prizes for their latest event which raised £485 for the fund.
