A TEENAGE driver from Oswaldtwistle was involved in a collision in Bacup in which a 56-year-old woman died, an inquest has heard.

The Citroen Saxo, driven by 18-year-old Kieran Fletcher of Blackburn Road, collided with Lynda Walters, a grandmother from Burnley Road, Bacup, and her friend, Samantha Thompson, 26, as they walked their dogs along Burnley Road, Broadclough in Bacup, on 14 January.

Mrs Walters suffered multiple injuries in the crash and died in the operating theatre, and Miss Thompson has just returned to her home in Holmes Lane after receiving treatment.

Evidence was given by Sergeant Martin Bishop, of the road policing unit, who attended the scene of the accident, and lecturer Michael Warwick who witnessed it. The inquest at Burnley also heard from Mr Fletcher and his passenger Jack Bunnell.

Coroner for the East Lancashire District, Richard Taylor, gave the cause of death as multiple injuries and recorded a verdict of accidental death.

Mr Fletcher will appear before Burnley magistrates on Monday charged with driving without due care and attention.
