A TEENAGER left brain-damaged after she fell out of a tree is continuing to amaze doctors with her recovery.

Vanessa Milek, 13, suffered serious head injuries in the accident at Milnshaw Park, Accrington, and spent three weeks in intensive care at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

But since then, Vanessa, of Westwood Street, Accrington, has learned to walk and eat without help from hospital staff.
Grandmother Gloria Milek said: "Vanessa is brilliant - she is so much better than we ever thought she was going to be. She can now walk unsupported and feed herself.

"The biggest problem is still her short-term memory. She can remember things from way back but not what she had for her tea.

"The doctors also found another break in her arm that they didn't know she had, which was a bit of a setback, but generally Vanessa is back to her bubbly self. She is always smiling and laughing now."
