Two teenagers were injured following an attack by would-be robbers armed with a snooker cue.

Police said the two 18-year-old victims who received cuts and bruises, managed to get away without handing over any property.

They were close to a ginnel between Buckingham Grove and Dill Hall Lane in Church when they were approached by two older men who attacked them and demanded their mobile phones.

One of the men was in possession of a snooker or pool cue.

It is believed the two men had followed the victims from Hyndburn Leisure Centre from the direction of Church.

The first attacker, who was in possession of the cue, is described as white, around 5ft 7ins to 5ft 10ins tall, medium/muscular build, aged in his early thirties, bald and wearing a light blue Nike jacket, blue and white checked shorts and black trainers.

The second offender is also described as white, around 5ft 7ins to 5ft 10ins tall and was of a slim build, tanned complexion, aged in his mid-twenties and had short dark hair that was receding.

He was wearing a white polo shirt with shorts which had red and black feathers on them.

Police are now appealing for information following the attempted robbery.

DS Andy Horne, of East CID, said: “This was a nasty attack on two young men who thankfully only received minor injuries.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been passing by in the vicinity around the time of the attack.

“If you have any information that could help us track these two men down, or if you recognise their descriptions, please get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
