A TERRIFIED mother has spoken of the moment a gun-wielding masked thug mugged her in broad daylight.
The woman, who does not wish to be identified, was walking through Milnshaw Park, near Lancaster Avenue, Accrington, at 1.30pm on Saturday when two yobs pounced on her.
She was with her 19-year-old daughter and said she feared for her life as a silver revolver, like the ones seen in westerns, was thrust into her face.
The 49-year-old, who lives in Church, said: "It just all happened so quickly. All of a sudden they seemed to appear from nowhere. I didn't know what was going on.
"One tried to pull the shopping bag off my daughter but she wouldn't let go and she was kicking him. The second robber came at me with a gun and pointed it in my face.
"He said: 'Give me your bag', but I tried to pull it to me and he pushed me to the ground. I thought they were messing around at first but I wasn't going to put up a struggle when I saw the gun because he could have shot me."
The thugs made off with a black leather handbag containing a purse, bank and travel cards, a diary and £10. The total value was £53.
The two culprits each wore a green bandana covering their face. They were dark-skinned and spoke with a local accent. They were in their late teens, 5ft 10ins and 5ft 6ins tall, and one had dark curly hair.
The traumatised victim said: "I am still very shaken up by it. I can't go out shopping on my own now and I am always looking over my shoulder."
Detective Sergeant Paul Rudd from Accrington CID said: "This type of incident is extremely rare in Accrington and we would urge any witnesses to contact the police as soon as possible."
