MORE than £4,000 has now been raised since the Observer started a campaign to help terminally-ill toddler Tess Sullivan.
Tess’s parents Helen and Steve have been overwhelmed by community generosity since going public with their plight to give their three year-old daughter as many magical memories as possible.
And they were given a further boost when they opened 20 cheques this week sent from generous community members.
Helen, 31, who lives in Huncoat with husband Steve, Tess, three and her brothers Tyler, 12, and Max, 17 months, and works at St Peter's Primary School in Rossendale, said: "It’s just lovely and was like Christmas when me and Steve sat down and opened the cheques. They have been sent from people across Rossendale and Accrington, Edenfield, Ramsbottom and Summerseat.
"One donation even came from Scotland. His niece apparently sends him a copy of the paper every week as he used to live in Huncoat."
The total amount donated to the Sullivans amassed from the cheque donations was £450. Helen is hoping to take Tess and family on a Disney Cruise next year following a family trip to Lapland in December, which has already been booked.
Brave Tess has already undergone surgery to remove parts of her skull after being diagnosed with pressure to the brain and is expected to die between the age of five and ten-years-old as there is currently no cure for the Alexander Disease.
"She will lose her mobility, eyesight and the ability to chew and swallow during the fatal illness.
Helen said: "We have been feeling quite low but getting the letters really gave us a boost.
She added: "Tess had her first day at school this week.
"It’s going to take a bit of time for her to settle but she was full of beans when she came home - she’d had a good day. It all gives us a boost when we are feeling quite down."
