There’s just over a week left to get your nominations for the Hyndburn Community Sports Awards.

Following on from the success of last year’s event, the time has come for you to nominate your local sporting heroes.

The prestigious awards are an opportunity for us to recognise local people supporting clubs, or teams that are performing at the top of their game.

Now is your chance to nominate the people you think should be awarded for their input into sports in your area.

We want to recognise the most inspiring sporting personalities and leaders across the borough.

Last year, sporting figures were honoured during a prestigious ceremony in Accrington Town Hall.

Chris Lowe, from Accrington Academy, took part in the awards last year where they won School of the year and their cheerleading squad picked up team of their year.

He said: “I decided to enter because I thought it was a great event for the community and I think it rewards all the hours that volunteers and coaches put in and the people who take part in sport for all their efforts, and it gives them a chance to reflect on their success. I looked through the categories and entered the group I felt deserved to be recognised.”

Chris, who works closely with Hyndburn Council, said he’s hoping to enter the awards again this year.

He added: “I’ve been looking at this nomination form and there’s a few more categories to enter.

“Winning team of the year was a great achievement considering that we had a lot of competition.

“Our cheerleading squad are national champions and to be recognised at the awards was brilliant. I would definitely encourage anyone who’s thinking about entering the awards to do it.”

This year’s ceremony will again take place at Accrington Town Hall on Thursday, September 18.

The Accrington Observer is sponsoring the School of the Year award.

You can vote for your school now to show that you believe it deserves to be the winner for its achievements in sport over the last 12 months.

To nominate a school fill in the coupon and send it in to us.

There is still time to nominate candidates before the closing date on Friday, June 13, in the following categories:

Coach of the Year; Community Club of the Year; Young Volunteer; Adult Volunteer; Rising Star (Under 21); Lifetime Achievement; Service to Disability Sport; Inspire Award (Age 11+); Team of the Year; Hyndburn Sports Photographer; Best Business Supporter of Grassroots Sport; Sports Personality and Community Sports Project of the Year.
