THE secret of a long and happy life is spending time with loved ones, says Accrington’s newest 100-year-old.
Kathleen Thompson celebrated her century on Monday with dozens of family and friends at Church View Nursing Home on Princess Street.
The widow of Bill Thompson, she lived for many years in Burnley Road where she helped her husband and son Ivor to run the family’s butcher shop on Norfolk Street.
In her younger days she enjoyed cooking and inspired her daughter Cynthia to become a home economics teacher.
Formerly a keen golfer, Kathleen now enjoys spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
As well as her son and daughter-in-law Anne, Kathleen was joined on her big day by Hynd-burn’s Mayor, Councillor Pam Barton, and Mayoress, Susan Johnson.
At one stage in the party she settled down for a little nap which the Mayor said was well deserved at her age.
