A primary is celebrating after being named a good school by Ofsted.

Sacred Heart Primary School in Church had a visit on May 7 and 8 and has been designated good by inspectors.

The last inspection, carried out in October 2012, had deemed the school required improvement.

Inspectors found in their latest inspection
that the quality of teaching has improved, with some being outstanding, and that pupils’ progress since the last inspection has accelerated, with a strong commitment to ensure that all pupils do equally well.

Acting headteacher Pamela Corry said the whole school community is thrilled.

She said: “We are all delighted. The staff have worked really hard and we have a consistent approach throughout the school.

“The parents are pleased with how things have gone. At the moment we’re working to get a banner put outside the school.”

Sacred Heart has over 200 pupils enrolled, with a high proportion from ethnic minorities, and the number of pupils who speak English as a second language are well above average.

Mrs Corry said: “We’ve been struggling for quite some time, so it’s great for the staff and the parents.

“Lots of schools in the area have required improvement so it’s great for the area and prospective parents.

“It’s been a real team effort that has got the school to where it is today. Everyone has worked so hard.”
