A 12-year-old-boy from Oswaldtwistle has been killed in a tragic motorbike accident at a quarry. 

Mount Carmel RC High school pupil Logan Wood suffered a heart attack after the fall on a motorcross dirt track in Whitworth and was pronounced dead in hospital.

In a tribute, his distraught family described Logan as a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew and cousin, a "real outdoors boy" with a sense of adventure.

They said: “Our Cheeky Little Monkey will always be remembered for his courage, wit, sense of humour, his love of life and all its adventures.

Phil Sykes, chairman of Church and Oswaldtwistle Cricket Club said: "We very all shocked to hear the news, our thoughts are with his parents and those that were close to him.

"Logan loved his cricket, he played for our under 13's junior team."My heart goes out to those that were close to him."

The air ambulance was called to Cowm Quarry in Whitworth at around 2.25pm on Wednesday, alongside police and a fleet of paramedic vehicles.

Mountain Rescue Teams were also scrambled to the site near Tong Lane.

Rossendale Borough Council said they are working with the police as part of an ongoing investigation.In a statement they said: "Our sympathies are with the boy’s family and friends at this tragic time.

"The owner of Cowm Leisure, John Whittle, refused to comment when called by the Accrington Observer's sister paper the Manchester Evening News.
