A kind and caring great-grandad who dedicated his life to community and charity work has died.

Colin Feeley, who was known locally at ‘Mr Huncoat’, worked tirelessly for the community as a Labour councillor for more than ten years.

The nurse, who loved his job at Calderstones Hospital, in Whalley, was well known in Hyndburn.

He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, May 17, aged 67, following a short battle with bone and liver cancer.

Daughter Michelle, 44, said Colin adored his family and loved to spend time with them.

She said: “He did so much for the community. He organised trips and raised money to take local children to Butlins, he got the football pitch built
on Bolton Avenue and he got the netball courts sorted.

“He just did endless charity work and work for local families. He was always such a caring person.

“Dad was very sociable and known by a lot of people. He loved a pint and meeting people in the pub and loved a bet on the dogs and horses.

“Even when he was diagnosed with cancer, he never complained or thought about himself.

“I couldn’t have wished for a better father. He will be terribly missed.”

Colin worked as a bus conductor and at construction group Fairclough’s before taking his nursing exams. He was a torch bearer in the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics.

MP Graham Jones said Colin was a proud Labour member.

He said: “He would ring me up and ask me if any leaflets wanted delivering and out we would go in all weathers to all parts. He will be missed by all.”
