A PUB landlord has swapped his pint pot for a teapot to take part in a TV advert for Britain's favourite cuppa.

Peter Rydings was the landlord of the Warner Arms, Accrington, for 11 years but now runs the Sparking Clog pub in Radcliffe.

During his time in Accrington Peter served TV soap stars Vicky Entwistle and Julie Hesmondhalgh, who play Janice Battersby and Hayley Cropper in Coronation Street.

He is now one of the stars in the latest Tetley tea TV campaign, Everyone's Cup of Tea, where he can be seen raising a pint glass full of tea.

The 55-year-old father-of-one was chosen after a friend, who runs a casting company, put him forward as a typical northern landlord.

Although he admits being partial to the odd pint, he does drink up to six brews each morning.

He said: "It all started as a bit of a laugh really but then I was asked to go down to London and we had a lovely two days there.

"It was easy really. I just had to raise a pint pot of tea and say 'Tetley Tea'. It was a nice day, I had a really good experience and it was well worth doing."

The advert was Peter's TV debut and was first shown on Monday morning. He has now been at the Radcliffe pub for seven months and although he and wife Janet are happy there, the couple do miss their Accrington friends.

Peter, who takes his tea with two sweeteners, added: "Please send our love to all our old customers and friends in Accrington. It was a lovely pub and we miss everyone."
