Two Accrington teenagers have died following a road traffic collision in Burnley last night.

Shortly before 9pm on Thursday, March 10 police were called to Marsden Road where a BMW saloon had collided with a wall and a parked car.

A 16-year-old boy from Accrington was pronounced dead at the scene while three other occupants of the car, all also from Accrington, were taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital.

One of the other passengers, a 19-year-old man, later died in hospital.

The remaining two occupants of the car, two men aged 18 and 20, remain in hospital with non life threatening injuries.

The road was closed for around six hours to allow accident investigation to take place and specially trained police officers are providing support to the families involved.

Sergeant Steve Wignall said: "This is an incredibly tragic incident in which two young people have sadly lost their lives. An investigation is now underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.

"It’s believed a white car had been travelling with the BMW and I would like to speak with anybody who may have seen the white car or the BMW being driven prior to the collision.

"I would also appeal to anybody who witnessed the collision itself or has any information they think could assist with this inquiry to contact police."
